TITLE: DIRECTOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SECURITY PLANNING

Job Summary

 

Directs the planning and development of district-wide procedural and technical security initiatives. Develops standards and procedures to facilitate resolution of violations.

 

Scope

 

This position works in an assigned area. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, government agencies, business and industry organizations and community agencies. Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to the Vice Chancellor Information Technology; receives broad direction as to the goals and objectives to be achieved; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matter.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Supervises assigned technical staff.

 

Representative Duties

 

Directs and coordinates district-wide technical and procedural security initiatives; analyzes, develops and refines implementation of security software and hardware technologies; develops long-range goals for strategic security plans for technology; updates policies and procedures; monitors governmental legislation related to security initiatives; works with outside vendors; supervises assigned staff; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: legal processes and procedures relating to security policy development; information technologies security software and hardware.

 

Ability to: plan, organize, implement and evaluate responsive programs; coordinate activities and work of others; supervise and evaluate staff; make effective oral and written presentations; analyze data, assess needs, diagnose problems and recommend appropriate solutions; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in information technology or a related field, with experience in planning and directing information technology security initiatives.
