Job Summary
Develops, plans and administers the implementation of
instructional support activities for Maricopa County K‑12 public schools
provided by the department and other education consortia to increase the number
of students who attain college degrees, and enter science, engineering,
mathematics and technology career fields.
Scope
This position works in the area of academic affairs. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff, representatives of educational institutions, parents,
representatives of federal and state agencies, business/industry education
leaders, community organizations, local and national foundations and the
public. Equipment used includes
standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Vice Chancellor of Academic and
Student Development; receives general direction regarding routine and standard
matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive
matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises the positions
of Director Science Program, Program/Office Coordinator, Administrative
Secretary and/or other assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Directs the development, planning, organization,
administration, articulation and implementation of the District’s comprehensive
educational systemic change K‑12 initiatives; administers data management
services and resource development; develops linkages and resource partnerships
with K‑12 public schools, colleges and universities, business and
industry, community based service organizations, Arizona State Department of
Education and state and federal government agencies to support systemic change
initiatives to strengthen student academic achievement; responsible for the
development and implementation of programs and support services that facilitate
K‑12 proficiency through graduation; establishes project management;
evaluates systems and database management activities to ensure required records
are maintained; prepares annual project and database reports as required by the
National Science Foundation and other federal and state agencies; responsible
for the development and implementation of programs and workshops to provide
professional development training and equity issues related to K‑12
student populations; develops and implements fundraising plans and strategies
for public school services; writes grants; develops, implements and monitors
budgets; makes oral and written presentation to local and national groups;
supervises assigned staff; assists Phoenix USI Unitary Management Team and
multi‑institution Science, Engineering and Mathematics Faculty Task
Force; represents MCCCD at local, state and national conferences/workshops;
provides technical assistance to develop centers nationally; performs related
duties as assigned.

Abilities
Knowledge
of: student development philosophy and practice as they relate to culturally
diverse populations; science, pre‑engineering, mathematics and
technology; K‑12 public school models; public school and community
college administration; instructional philosophy; resource development;
curriculum development and instructional design; evaluation design and
analysis; database management systems.
Ability
to: conduct long range planning; communicate needs and future trends and
develop responsive programs; represent the program to a variety of audiences;
supervise assigned staff; coordinate activities with a wide variety of internal
and external groups; develop and manage budgets; communicate effectively orally
and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in science, engineering or
mathematics and extensive experience in developing, directing, coordinating and
implementing programs in secondary school curriculum development, professional
development, evaluation and assessment and program management.
Special Conditions of Employment
This position requires frequent travel.
