Job Summary
Researches, recommends and assists in
implementing
enterprise wide information technology solutions to meet college needs. Develop plans for implementing various
hardware and software solutions including managing resources and staff.
Scope
This position works in the area of
information
technology. Work contacts include
administrators, faculty, staff and vendors.
Equipment used includes a full range of computer equipment and
software.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Director of
Information
Technologies; receives general direction regarding routine and standard
matters; specific instructions regarding non-routine and highly
sensitive
matters.
Supervision Exercised
May supervise a variety of positions
including Director
College Technology, Director Information Technology Security Planning,
District
Managers Technical Support, Manager Technical Services, Network
Telecommunications Planner, Enterprise Application Designer, Manager
Enterprise
Application Designer, Manager Computer Operations, Manager Technical
Services, District
Manager Technical Support, Enterprise Application Administrator,
Enterprise
Systems Administrator, Programmer Analysts, Senior Database
Administrator,
Manager of Helpdesk, Manager Information Technologies, Project
Coordinator,
Enterprise Application Administrator, Administrator and/or other
assigned
staff.
Representative Duties
Researches and designs technology
solutions, implements
strategic technologies; supervises and coordinates the work of assigned
staff;
maximizes the use of hardware, software and quality of services; assess
and
recommends technology solutions; researches, tests and supervises
implementation of innovative software and hardware technologies such as
database, mobile and integrated applications; may assist in budget
preparation,
monitoring, needs assessment and procurement; may maintain liaison with
outside
vendors; may recommend contracts of outside vendors to Director;
confers with
users and implements procedures, methods, technical concerns and
budgets;
assists in developing cost benefit analyses of proposed systems;
researches and
monitors technological changes and innovations; assists in the
development of
long range goals and objectives; assists in the development of grant
proposals;
performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: software
application development environments (Microsoft .NET/ASPX, MS Visual
Studio)
analysis, implementation and integration of on line systems; Database
Systems
(MS/SQL/Oracle); World Wide Web (WWW) interfaces to database
applications;
appropriate computer languages (C# and ASPX); Server environment
(Microsoft, UNIX,
etc.); computer hardware and software; project management methodologies.
Ability to: supervise assigned staff;
research new
technologies and apply findings to current needs; write technical
design
specifications and recommendations; manage projects and teams on
implementing
technology projects; recommend and monitor budgets; communicate
effectively
orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with
persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training,
and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in information
technology, and/or
experience in technology development, networking and managing major
technology
projects, CIS MIS and/or certification in Microsoft.
Special Conditions of Employment
Positions in this class may be exposed to
cold temperatures;
may be required to lift up to 50-lb objects; may have to crawl into
small
cramped spaces; may require prolonged monitor viewing; may require
weekends or
evenings may require being on-call via phone.
