Job Summary
Develops and maintains political contact, and shapes policy
with regard to changes in vocational education, job training and implementation
at national and local levels as it affects the
Scope
This position works in the area of Business and Workforce
Development. Work contacts include
administrators, representatives of business, industry and governmental
agencies, and elected officials.
Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Director Business and Workforce
Development; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters
and specific instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Representative Duties
Strategically positions the District with respect to the
evolving job training block grant, school‑to‑work/tech prep
structure in Arizona based from Federal funding; develops contacts with the new
Workforce Development Council and the Governor's Office of Employment and
Training; provides staff support services to the office of the Chancellor and
Business and Workforce Development regarding the direction of the Council;
represents the Chancellor's position and negotiates on behalf of the Chancellor
as directed; prepares background briefing materials and position papers
regarding Council issues; maintains liaison with the Governor's office, the
Department of Economic Security, Department of Commerce and the Department of
Education relative to job training issues; establishes productive dialog with local Private Industry Council;
facilitates partnership with private sector business and associations with
regard to job training; prepares short and long term plans with District
personnel regarding school‑to‑work/tech prep and related programs;
assists with Small Business Development Center efforts to secure funding;
assists with various activities of the Arizona‑Mexico Trade Education
Program and future development; provides marketing assistance to the
"Super IGA" program; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and
Abilities
Knowledge
of: knowledge of governmental policy development; business and industry
training practices; governmental structures, federal and state legislation,
planning and development; networking and partnership development.
Ability
to: understand governmental policy development, role of community colleges in
job training; to make effective oral and written presentations; establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in Business or public
administration and/or experience in economics, employment/training development
in a state agency or official's office.

Local and out of state travel are required.
