Job Summary
Plans and directs the design and installation of voice, data
and video cabling infrastructure and system on all new and on‑going
district construction projects and provides operational liaison assistance to
the Manager Network Communication Systems.
Scope
This position works in the area of information
technologies. Work contacts include
administrators, Vice Chancellors, faculty, staff, architects, engineers,
technical consultants, equipment vendors and contractors. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Manager Network Communication
Systems; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters;
specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Directs the work of external contractors, consultants,
engineers and equipment vendors.
Representative Duties
Researches, plans and directs the design and preparation of
specifications for voice, data and video cabling and systems for all new and on‑going
district construction projects; assists the colleges in assessment of voice,
video and data needs for educational facilities; coordinates with the district
Planning Department to include cabling and system specifications in design
development and construction drawing phases; assists in preparation of bid
documents with major responsibility for voice, data and video aspects of all
major district construction and remodeling projects; coordinates and monitors
the efforts of technical consultants, engineers, architects, contractors and
equipment vendors; conducts on‑site inspection of construction projects
in progress; estimates voice, data and video cabling and systems costs for new
construction budgets; maintains and distributes information technologies
technical standards documents; monitors and negotiates software licenses for
the VAX computers; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: applicable building, safety and fire codes; applicable cabling standards
for voice, data and video cabling; cost estimating and project management;
voice, data and video equipment specifications for cabling, power and
environmental controls.
Ability
to: prepare bidding specifications, documents and budgets; coordinate and
oversee the efforts of technical consultants, architects, contractors,
engineers and equipment vendors; monitor progress of wide variety of district
construction projects; interpret architectural and electrical designs and
drawings; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative
working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing
assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a degree in information technology or data
communication with project management and administrative experience in various
construction projects.
Special Conditions of Employment
Positions
in this class require a State of Arizona Class D Driver's license.
