Job Summary

 

Develops, plans and supervises the programming and operational activities of assigned staff at KJZZ/KBAQ.

 

Scope

 

This position works in the area of KJZZ/KBAQ.  Work contacts include administrators, staff and outside agencies.  Equipment used includes standard office and broadcast equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to the General Manager KJZZ/KBAQ/SS; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Supervises the positions of Operations Manager, Music Director, News Director, Producer, Announcer, and/or other assigned staff, and volunteer staff.

 

Representative Duties

 

Plans, develops, recommends and implements program schedules; analyzes current market trends and changes to determine programming; monitors stations to ensure compliance and coordination with external and internal standards; supervises, directs and schedules assigned staff; writes and designs promotional materials and publications; plans and coordinates on‑air fundraising for both stations; may assist in the hiring, training and evaluation for all staff; establishes in‑house training programs; operates and instructs station equipment usage; assists in writing grant requests and researches funding sources; assists in planning and budget preparation; oversees the website content and streaming for each station; manages the audio archive; represents station at community events; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: FCC regulations and procedures; on‑air fundraising.

 

Ability to: plan, audition and develop programs; maintain compliance with FCC rules and regulations; interpret data to determine projected programming; train and supervise assigned staff; prepare grant requests; write and design, programs and materials; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 


Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in broadcasting or journalism with experience in public broadcasting in a supervisory capacity.

 

Special Conditions of Employment

 

On call 24 hours.
