ASSISTANT DIRECTOR STRATEGIC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES

Assists in
planning, directing and implementing strategic information technologies in the
District including the management of technology resources and personnel.
This
position works in the area of strategic information technologies. Work contacts may include administrators,
faculty, staff, students and vendors.
Equipment used includes standard office equipment and a variety of
computer hardware and software.
This
position reports to the Director Strategic Information Technologies; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non-routine and highly sensitive matters.
Depending
on location/department, may supervise a variety of positions including Manager
Network Communication Systems, Manager Computer Operations, Manager Technical
Services, District Manager Technical Support, Enterprise Application
Administrator, Enterprise Systems Administrator, Programmer Analysts, Senior
Database Administrator, Systems Application Analyst, Programmer, and/or other
assigned staff.
Implements
strategic technologies; supervises and coordinates the work of assigned staff;
maximizes the use of hardware, software and quality of services; assists in
developing, refining and/or implementing integrated computerized systems;
researches, tests and supervises implementation of innovative software
technologies such as Web applications; may assist in budget preparation,
monitoring, needs assessment and procurement; may maintain liaison with outside
vendors; may recommend contracts of outside vendors to Director; confers with
users and implements procedures, methods, technical concerns and budgets;
assists in developing cost benefit analyses of proposed systems; researches and
monitors technological changes and innovations; assists in development of long
range goals and objectives; assists in development of grant proposals; fosters
professional development of assigned staff; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge
of: information system development including analysis, implementation and
integration of online systems; database management systems; appropriate
computer languages; applications and changes of hardware and software packages
associated with computing systems.
Ability to:
supervise staff; manage project schedules; analyze, interpret and prepare
reports; organize workflow; recommend and monitor budgets; communicate
effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships
with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Any
combination of education, training and experience that provides the required
knowledge and abilities. An example of
this would be a college degree in computer science and/or business administration
with experience in supervising and managing major software development
projects.
Position in
this classification may require prolonged monitor viewing. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
