Job Summary
Directs and facilitates development and enhancement of
innovative projects and initiatives through proposal development processes to
secure public and private funding for the Maricopa Community Colleges. Directs,
plans, develops and implements complex and long-term plans, strategies and
objectives, including development and enhancement of relationships for the
purpose of seeking and applying for funding for college and district
priorities.
Scope
This position works in the area of grants or resource
development. Contacts include faculty,
administration, and staff, local and national government, corporate and
foundation officers, business and industry representatives, educational and
community partners, and fund raising volunteers, including Directors and
Officers of the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation. Equipment used includes
standard work equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; makes
independent decisions in regard to managing resources and workload for grants
development for colleges and district office departments; receives general
direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non-routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises the
positions of Associate Director Grants & Corporate Development, Coordinator
Prospect Research & Online Research, Grants and Gift Management Specialist,
Research Assistant and/or other assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Develops, directs and implements complex and long-term
strategies to obtain public and private funding to develop and support
innovative programs, projects and initiatives of the Maricopa Community
Colleges; provides leadership, consultation and support for internal and
external initiatives and collaborations to develop innovative, competitive and
fundable concepts for public and private funding opportunities, including
identification of viable funding opportunities; project and proposal planning
and development, review and feedback, approvals and submission; oversees,
reviews and directs the work of managers and staff supervised as well as the
external developers/writers hired to collaborate with the district or colleges
on specific grant development projects; coordinates the work of department
staff with other Maricopa administrators and faculty; provides direction and
consultative services on issues and problems related to grants management,
project evaluation and performance reporting; analyzes, addresses and resolves
problems that impede and influence initial and continued funding of public
grants and private gifts; establishes fundraising goals for private gifts and
periodically assesses staff achievement; develops and implements corporate and
foundation cultivation and solicitation strategies and assists and directs
staff in the process to support volunteers leading these activities; provides
guidance and support to prospective donors regarding delineation of private
gifts; directs staff to research, analyze and compare grant and philanthropic
trends and state and federal legislation to identify viable opportunities for
prospect development and public and private fundraising; collaborates and
maintains a liaison with the Assistant Director of Development to report and
manage private gifts for program and scholarship support and to ensure
stewardship for continuous and positive donor relationships; manages budgets;
prepares reports as required; performs related duties as assigned.

advancement; prospect development; donor cultivation and solicitation; federal
and state guidelines regulating management and control of public grants;
volunteer, development and gift management; proposal planning, grant
development and management; higher education administration.
Ability to: direct and manage staff and consultants; develop
and execute effective long-term strategies; write and facilitate development of
persuasive, competitive proposals; work collaboratively at all levels of the
internal organization and with external entities such as corporations,
foundations and government agencies; interpret and apply complex government
regulations and procedures; recognize viable funding opportunities; execute
discretion and a high degree of confidentiality; effectively utilize computer
applications, programs and the internet; communicate effectively orally and in
writing; supervise and coordinate the work of others; establish cooperative
working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree and/or responsible
experience in corporate and foundation fundraising in higher education or for a
non-profit organization, or a college degree plus grants administration,
writing and development experience, preferably in higher education.
Special Conditions of Employment
This position requires flexible hours and travel. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
