Job Summary

Develops, plans and administers the Maricopa Advanced Technological Education Center as a districtwide resource and national center for technology education.

Scope

This position works in an assigned area. Work contacts nationwide and international include college leadership, elected officials, industry leadership for professional trade associations, government and foundations.

Supervision Received

This position reports to the Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs; receives broad direction related to the community college district's mission, goals and objectives.

Supervision Exercised

Supervises the positions of Program Coordinator, Multimedia Specialist, and/or other assigned staff.

Representative Duties

Directs the development, planning, staffing, organization, customer service and administrative activities of the Maricopa Advanced Technological Education Center; works with the Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs to develop the goals, objectives and strategies for the center; oversees the development of the center’s efforts in curriculum, faculty development, program growth and career awareness for prospective students; manages the programmatic and auditable, fiscal responsibilities of the center’s externally funded programs; provides leadership for district-wide initiatives in technology related areas including those related to student success, workforce development, university collaboration, industry partnerships and public policy; oversees the planning and execution of the center’s international conference; directs the outreach and communication efforts of the enter; implements the centers business and electronic business strategies; guides the development of the center’s innovation in instructional practice program; works with key industry members and organization to determine national workforce needs and to create programs with colleges in the district and in the nation to meet those needs; participates in district college committees and advisory boards on a local and national level; supervises assigned staff; performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of: technology industries, culture and trends; organizational development; management and fiscal practices; public relations; computer-based education and training; curriculum development, faculty development, workforce development, design and instructional technology; report proposal writing; presentation techniques; budget management.

Ability to: successfully secure external funding; assess and anticipate dynamics in education and industry needs and develop programs to respond; direct education professionals in the development of industry specific curriculum and creative instructional materials; evaluate center progress in meeting goals and objectives; make effective oral presentations regarding the missions and goals of the Maricopa Advanced Technological Education Center; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

Training and Experience

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be a college degree in the sciences, engineering or related field and/or professional experience in both industry and academic environment that provided experience in management, workforce development, leadership and educational principles and methods.

Special Conditions of Employment

This position requires frequent travel. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
