Job Summary
Plans, manages, and administers the activities of Maricopa Colleges Television (MCTV).
Scope
This position works in the area of Maricopa Colleges Television (MCTV). Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, broadcast and cable representatives, programming agencies, state agencies and general public. Equipment used includes broadcast studio equipment and standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to a college Dean; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises Programming Coordinator,
Production Coordinator,
Adjunct Faculty and Post Production Supervisor.
Representative Duties
Directs the broadcasting team in the
preparation and the
products of original TV programming; plans, integrates and supervises
all
aspects of MCTV to include the direction of activities of adjunct
faculty and
students in all areas that relate to the production of materials for
MCTV;
recruiting and advisement of students; development of internships and
other
school/employer partnerships; chairs MCTV content and advisory
committee;
development of curriculum and educational materials; edits all TV/Video
content
for MCTV; manages station programming, technical operations
expenditures,
marketing, fundraising, public relations, grants, legal activities and
planning; maintains liaison with internal and external communities;
ensures
compliance with telecommunication laws and FCC regulations that affect
TV
operations; supervises, trains, and evaluates activities and
performance of
staff; remains on call in case of technical, programmatic, and/or staff
emergencies; administers promotional and developmental activities of
the
station including grant proposal applications, fundraising, publication
of news
releases, station programming guide and advertising; review and
adoption of new
technologies; publication of news release station guide and
advertising;
represents the station, college and district at local and national
meetings,
performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: non-broadcast television
station operations,
project management, current practices in the administration of
community
college programs/services in the assigned area of responsibility,
strategic
planning, student development; program development; local, regional and
national
organizations; budget preparation.
Ability to: assess occupational needs and
develop responsive
programs, manage and direct the activities of a non-broadcast
television
station; prepare and monitor station budgets; organize and supervise
staff;
solve technical and programmatic emergencies; communicate effectively
orally
and in writing; and establish cooperative working relationships with
persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training,
and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be an advanced degree in broadcasting
that
provides both theoretical and practical application in a supervisory
capacity,
experience in community college management and development of community
college
programs. Work experience in a television station and higher education
teaching
experience preferred. Master’s degree required.
Special Conditions of Employment
On call 24 hours. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
