Job Summary


Plans, manages and administers the activities of KJZZ/KBAQ and Sun Sounds.


Scope


This position works in the area of KJZZ/KBAQ/Sun Sounds.  Work contacts include administrators, staff, representatives of the Federal Communications Commission, Corporation Public Broadcasting, National Public Radio, other broadcasters, state agencies and general public.  Equipment used includes broadcast studio equipment and standard office equipment.


Supervision Received


This position reports to a College President; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine matters.


Supervision Exercised


Supervises the positions of Program Director KJZZ/KBAQ, Director Sun Sounds of Arizona, Chief Engineer KJZZ/KBAQ/SS, Coordinator Broadcast Computer Services, Major Gifts Officer and Office Coordinator.


Representative Duties


Plans, integrates and supervises all aspects of KJZZ/KBAQ and Sun Sounds to include programming, technical operations, expenditures, marketing, fundraising, public relations, grants, legal activities and planning; maintains liaison with internal and external communities; supervises, trains and evaluates activities and performance of staff; on call in case of technical, programmatic and/or staff emergencies; prepares and monitors station budgets for Public Broadcasting (CPB), listener‑supported funds and other external grants; maintains compliance with current Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations that affect the operation of the stations; monitors the station to insure compliance with National Public Radio (NPR) and CPB; administers promotional and developmental activities of the station, including grant proposal applications, fund raising activities, publication of news releases, station program guide and advertising; represents the station, college and  the District at local and national professional and public meetings; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: public telecommunications laws; public broadcasting; technical operations of a radio station.


Ability to: manage and direct the activities of a radio station; prepare and monitor station budgets; maintain compliance with FCC rules and regulations; organize and supervise staff; solve technical and programmatic emergencies; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in broadcasting and/or experience in broadcasting that provides both theoretical and practical application in a supervisory capacity.


Special Conditions of Employment


On call 24 hours. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
