Job Summary
Directs the planning, research, implementation,
administration and evaluation of college‑wide institutional
effectiveness, assessment, planning programs and/or advancement. Provides
leadership for the continuous improvement of college programs and services.
Scope
This position works in an assigned area. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff, students, representatives of business and community
organizations and national accrediting agencies. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives broad direction related to
college goals and objectives.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may supervise the
positions of Coordinator Institutional Effectiveness, Institutional Research Analyst, Research Assistant,
Coordinator Student Success Programs, Programmer Analyst Administrative
Assistant and/or other assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Directs the planning, research, implementation,
administration and evaluation of college‑wide institutional
effectiveness, assessment and planning programs with special focus on student
outcomes assessment according to NCA criteria and MCCCD goals; develops and
administers systematic, broad based and interrelated research, planning and
evaluation processes; designs, develops and implements strategies to assess and
improve institutional effectiveness; designs, coordinates and implements
college‑wide outcomes assessment programs; designs and implements college
planning processes linked to budgeting; provides direction, leadership and
advice to instructional administrators, faculty and others involved in the
design, development, evaluation and funding of instructional programs and
services; makes recommendation for curriculum and pedagogical change and
continuous improvement of instruction; participates in the development and
implementation of instructional budget; analyzes and disseminates results of
institutional effectiveness research to internal and external constituencies;
maintains liaison with national, regional, state and local agencies in the
areas of educational research, evaluation and assessment; develops and
disseminates the college's strategic plan and annual academic plan; may
coordinate, write and/or evaluate grants; serves on appropriate committees;
supervises assigned staff; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and
Abilities
Knowledge
of: local, regional, national and international assessment issues; assessment
and evaluation concepts, methods and models; principles and theories of
strategic and operational planning; current and innovative practices in
assessment, planning, research and institutional effectiveness; data
warehousing; current practices in higher education, particularly community
colleges; instructional programs and program development; learning and instructional
theories and applications; budget development and administration.
Ability to: conduct long‑range planning and design
relative to institutional effectiveness, assessment and planning programs; plan
and implement assessment strategies; lead through collaboration; promote
educational innovation and improvement; prepare, recommend and administer
budgets; organize, prioritize and coordinate the work of others; supervise
assigned staff; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in education, research,
psychology or related field and/or experience in research and the
administration of large‑scale educational, faculty, instructional or
evaluation programs in a multi‑college system.
