Job Summary


Responsible for district-wide strategic planning and directs all aspects of the district-wide voice communications systems, library automation, library technical services, help desk, information technology training, conferencing systems and budget. Administers strategic planning and direction of all learning activities and related projects in the division of Information Technologies Services.


Scope


This position works in the area of Information Technologies.  Work contacts include students, staff, faculty, administrators, representatives from other national and international educational institutions, professional organizations, vendors, contractors, community and business leaders.


Supervision Received


This position reports to the Vice Chancellor Information Technologies; receives broad direction related to goals and objectives.


Supervision Exercised


Supervises support staff for the Help Desk, ITS, library and library telecommunications.


Representative Duties


Plans and administers district-wide voice communication (telephone) systems; researches, monitors, and coordinates the development of new technologies for projects such as district-wide library services; coordinates specialized district-wide information technology training; administers all aspects of Information Technology training/instructional efforts; directs district-wide Help Desk operations; serves independently in addition to participating as the Vice Chancellor's representative to a wide variety of internal and external committees; develops, prepares and delivers presentations to national conferences; participates in  district-wide committees; maintains liaison with external vendors; develops and writes proposals; conducts evaluations and contract negotiations; develops departmental policies and procedures; prepares cost benefit analyses, management reports and budget information as requested; develops short and long range goals and objectives; supervises assigned staff and services; performs special projects independently as directed by Vice Chancellor; fosters professional development of assigned staff; coordinates communication between Informational Technologies Services and college staff; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: current administrative management practices and procedures; application of new technologic trends to library automation; political aspects relevant to district structure and processes; strategic planning of technology trends in telephony; applications of information technology in executive and administrative environments; integration of Internet and networking in library automation from both technical and management aspects; MCCCD policies and procedures; strategic planning, budgetary development and management processes; current district-wide training needs.


Ability to: apply and integrate technology applications to assigned areas; work independently; supervise and foster professional growth of staff; analyze, interpret and prepare reports and proposal evaluations; organize work flow; interpret written documentation; monitor user needs on an ongoing basis; negotiate contracts; develop and implement short and long term planning; plan and monitor budgets; communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in a business related field or related technical area.
