Scope
This position works in the area of Academic Affairs. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students; representatives of business and community organizations; governmental and external funding agencies; national and international leaders and professionals in education. Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters; broad latitude given in the development, design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises the Director of International & Intercultural
Education, Instructional Designers, Instructional Technologists,
Faculty-In-Residence, Administrative Assistants, Administrative Secretaries,
student workers, and other assigned staff. Provides work direction to faculty,
special projects administrators, and staff.
Representative Duties
Coordinates the planning, development, implementation,
evaluation, and maintenance of the academic affairs support programs and
services within the Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction; provides
leadership and direction for International and Intercultural Education;
prepares and manages the budgets for all programs and services; supervises the
planning and implementation of district-wide events such as Faculty
Convocation, dialogue days, various competition and awards, Honors Institute,
Honors Forum Lectures; coordinates the development, implementation, and
evaluation of new innovative teaching, learning, and assessment programs and
services; provides technical assistance, and direction in the design,
development, evaluation, and funding of innovative and reform instructional
programs and services; consults with faculty in the design of research
projects, data collection, analyses, and reporting; serves as District liaison
with national, regional, state, and local agencies in the areas of learning,
instruction, educational research, evaluation, assessment, and faculty
professional development; analyzes learning, instructional, and assessment
issues and develops responsive educational innovations and reform programs;
researches trends in teaching and learning effectiveness; designs, coordinates,
and evaluates experimental educational programs; oversees special innovative
projects and development efforts with community college, university, and high
school faculty; serves as a consultant and assists in the development of
national innovations and models in learning, instruction, and assessment with
professionals and leaders in the field; facilitates the integration of learning
and evaluation in educational programs and services; administers special task
forces and conferences on learning, instruction, and assessment; coordinates
development of district master plans for faculty and instructional development;
assists colleges with planning and preparation of accreditation processes and
documents; designs, develops, coordinates, and facilitates workshops, retreats,
and other faculty development opportunities; develops, prepares, and delivers
oral and written presentations at local, national, and international meetings
and conferences; performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of: local, regional, national, international
learning, instruction, and assessment trends and issues; local, state, and
national community college issues; innovative concepts and best practices of learning,
instruction, and assessment in the provision of systemic educational reform and
change in higher education, particularly community colleges; international and
intercultural education issues and practices; integration of learning,
instruction, and assessment principles and theories in educational environments
and programs; curriculum development; assessment and program evaluation models,
methods, processes and tools; research methodology; data collection, analyses,
and reporting; accreditation policies and requirements; principles and
practices of systems thinking and organizational change and management, adult
learning and assessment theories; technology applications in education.
Ability to: provide leadership and direction for complex
departments, programs, and processes requiring district-wide coordination;
conduct long-range planning; coordinates large-scale systemic programs with a
wide range of administrators, faculty, high school, university, and community
college counterparts; design, develop, and evaluate professional development
programs; develop and implement budgets; conduct research and needs
assessments, analyze data, and develop responsive programs, services, and
procedures; analyze learning, instruction, and assessment issues and provide
valid recommendation for solutions; supervise assigned staff; present ideas
clearly and comprehensively, both orally and in writing; make oral
presentations; write articles for professional journals and other publications;
and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted during
the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in Education or related
areas and/or extensive professional experience in the administration of
large-scale, complex educational, faculty, instructional, or evaluation
programs in a very large multi-college system.
