Job Summary


Designs, evaluates and implements extensive high level community relations, professional liaisons and research on behalf of the Office of the Vice Chancellor.  Develops, coordinates and implements district wide marketing, advertising and public relations campaigns and activities.

 

Scope


This position works in the Vice Chancellor's Office.  Work contacts range throughout all employee levels, including the Vice Chancellors, College Presidents, as well as a wide variety of business, community and government leaders throughout the state.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment. 

 

Supervision Received


This position reports to the Vice Chancellor.  Because of the high volume of special projects, work direction and consultation occur frequently, with the incumbent expected to complete projects independently after assignment. 

 

Supervision Exercised


Supervises the position of Coordinator Marketing & Public Relations and the staff in the Office of Marketing and Public Relations; may provide work direction to office staff and consultative advice to a variety of administrators and staff throughout the District. 

 

Representative Duties


Develops marketing and public relations plans for the District; coordinates marketing efforts across colleges and assists colleges in developing marketing and public relations plans; coordinates marketing, advertising and outreach campaigns; represents the Vice Chancellor to a variety of business, professional, community and governmental groups, at the local regional and national levels, Chambers of Commerce, and special interest groups; may coordinate regular meetings with these groups and represent the Vice Chancellor at these meetings; organizes activities with community organizations to introduce Maricopa Community Colleges to potential students; participates as a member of a variety of internal and external committees, task forces and organizations relevant to District interests; organizes special events; performs fact‑finding and troubleshooting activities in areas of special interest to the Vice Chancellor and the District; provides liaison between the Vice Chancellor and District Staff; may develop new programs to be turned over to operating units; monitors governmental and community affairs of interest to the District and relays information to the Vice Chancellor; researches and writes speeches, programs and materials for the Vice Chancellor or for public dissemination; prepares printed and digital/electronic materials; assists in preparation and monitoring of Vice Chancellor's office budget; organizes and contracts for community surveys and marketing research; performs related duties as assigned. 

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: educational, cultural, demographic, political, governmental, employee relations, human resources issues relevant to the District's accomplishment of its mission; District structure and processes; local, regional, national and international, community, business, and governmental organizations; marketing, marketing research and advertising techniques; public relations; document production and design.

 

Ability to: represent the District and the Vice Chancellor to a wide range of internal and external constituencies; coordinate events and activities within the District and the community; diagnose operating and public relations problems and develop appropriate solutions/recommendations; understand and compile research; coordinate and direct efforts involving the colleges and the District; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree and/or professional administrative experience in an educational environment involving significant liaison and issues management responsibilities. 

 

Special Conditions of Employment


Must be able to attend events on evenings and weekends. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
