Job Summary
Plans and coordinates student development services with the
colleges and education centers.
Scope
This position works in the office of the Vice Chancellor
Student Development and Community Affairs.
Work contacts range throughout all employee levels including Vice
Chancellors, College Presidents and Deans, as well as students, faculty, staff
and the community. Equipment used
includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Vice Chancellor Student
Development and Community affairs; due to the high volume of special projects,
work direction and consultation occur regularly with the incumbent expected to
complete projects independently after assignment.
Supervision Exercised
This position may exercise supervisory authority, as well as
provide work direction to office staff and consultative advice to a variety of administrators
and staff throughout the District.
Representative Duties
Coordinates the planning, development, maintenance,
implementation, and evaluation of student development programs and services in
the District; provides technical assistance, support, advice, and counsel to
College Presidents, the Deans of Student Services Council, administrators,
faculty, other student development services staff in the development and
funding of student development programs and services; serves as chair and/or a
member of several district wide councils; serves as a District liaison with
national, regional, state, and local agencies and organizations in the area of
student development services and employee in-service training; analyzes student
characteristics to develop responsive employee development programs;
coordinates the evaluation of programs; oversees articulation of District
student development programs with high schools and universities; facilitates
conferences and makes oral and written presentations relative to student
development programs; coordinates development of a district master plan for
student development programs and services; facilitates the integration of
student development with the instructional programs; provides fact finding and
troubleshooting activities in areas related to Student Development for the Vice
Chancellor; researches and develops programs and materials for the Vice
Chancellor; prepares printed and electronic materials; performs special
projects as assigned by the Vice Chancellor; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: local, regional, and national student
development issues; professional development and in-service training needs of
student development personnel, faculty and staff; integration of student
development services and the instructional program; current and innovative
practices in the provision of student development services in community
colleges; principles and practices of management; student and adult development
theory and practices; student assessment, orientation and placement; computer
program application in student development services areas.
Ability to: conduct long‑range planning relative to
student development services and programs and employee training needs;
coordinate programs with a wide range of District administrators, high school,
university, and community counterparts; supervise assigned staff; make oral and
written presentations; negotiate and communicate effectively and establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be experience in student development services
in a multi‑college system with administrative experience in Student
Development preferred. Masters Degree
required; Ph.D. preferred.
