Job Summary
Oversees all phases of information technologies in areas of
voice, data, and video. Develops and
implements acquisition, and college allocation of information technology
equipment, services, and support.
Manages college communication and computer systems, local area networks,
library, computer labs, and information commons.
Scope
This position works in the area of administration. Work
contacts include administrators, faculty, staff and students. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment and voice, data and video equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the College President; receives
broad direction related to college goals and objectives.
Supervision Exercised
This position supervises the areas of Instructional Computer
Services, Administrative Computer Services, college systems staff, repair and
maintenance technicians and office staff.
Representative Duties
Plans and implements future technology applications and
facility requirements as an integral part of the College Master Plan; keeps
abreast of new technologies and identifies relevant applications; determines
procedures for the college information technology requirements, system and
network design, and equipment needs; assesses needs and negotiates contracts,
lease/purchase agreements, and various means of equipment acquisition; verifies
compliance with regulatory agencies' requirements; determines and manages the
acquisition of site license agreement; manages the college communications
systems including data communication, telephone, video conferencing, and
broadband distribution; maintains liaison with other college and district
Information Services personnel; coordinates instructional/administrative
applications, vendor interfaces and service orders; develops and implements
policies and procedures; directs specification writing, bid solicitation, writing and proposal evaluation;
confers with users and advises on technologies, applications, technical
concerns and budgets; develops and monitors budget; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and
Abilities
Knowledge
of: all derivatives of information technology such as telecommunication, video
conferencing, computer systems and on line applications; local, metropolitan
and wide area networks; network operating systems; global networks; current
desk top computer equipment and software applications; communication systems
and planning; technology trends; systems and application programming.
Ability
to: work independently, make decisions based upon data collection and
recommendation; direct future planning for college information technology
needs; generate supporting data; maximize use of computing and communications
technology; analyze, interpret and prepares reports; develop and administer
budgets; negotiate contracts; supervise staff; communicate effectively orally
and in writing and establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in Computer Science,
Telecommunications, Communications, Business or a related field and/or
experience in managing computer facilities, network or telecommunication
systems. Master's degree required;
Doctorate preferred.
