Job Summary
Organizes, directs and implements a comprehensive
development program at the district level on behalf of the colleges and
centers. Serves as Executive Director
of the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation, which is the chief
administrative officer of the Foundation.
Scope
This position works in the area of development. Work contacts include Foundation Board of Directors,
fundraising volunteers, donors, corporate and foundation giving officers,
non-profit executives, Chancellor, College Presidents, administrators, faculty
and staff. Equipment used includes
standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student
Development. Receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters;
specific instructions regarding non-routine and highly sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises the
positions of Director Grants & Corporate Development, Director Annual Fund,
Manager Development Financial Operations, Director Major Gifts and/or other
assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Develops, implements and evaluates a comprehensive
development program for the district's colleges and centers that includes
corporate and foundation giving, major gifts, annual giving, planned giving,
grants and proposals, marketing and public relations and related support
functions; serves as Executive Director (chief administrative officer) of the
Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation; develops overall planning and strategy
for all fundraising activities including capital campaigns, major gifts, annual
giving, planned giving, marketing and public relations and institutional imaging
programming; administers budget; maintains liaison with external business
contacts and donors; directs staffing for Foundation Board and committees;
provides consultation, coordination and support for fundraising activities at
the colleges and centers; develops Foundation board membership and volunteer
fundraising leadership; develops policies related to fundraising for district
and Foundation operations; supervises assigned staff; performs related duties
as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: principles of fundraising in an educational
environment; federal and state regulations governing non-profit organizations;
principles of fundraising in individual major gifts, corporate and foundation
giving, annual giving and planned giving; higher education administration.
Ability to: develop fundraising policy, planning and
strategy; execute a comprehensive fundraising program at district level; renew
and sustain giving and secure long term fundraising capabilities; coordinate
fundraising programs at multiple sites; develop and retain volunteer
leadership; develop internal and external relationships to support fundraising
and Foundation; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree with extensive experience
in building and managing a comprehensive development program in a multi-site
location for higher education or non-profit organization.
