Job Summary
Develops, organizes, and administers the master plan
encompassing comprehensive instructional programs, facilities and total operations
of a start‑up college campus.
Scope
The Provost has instructional and operational responsibility
and authority to administer all aspects of programs, initiatives, and
operations and represent the Chancellor/President and build alliances and
coordinate mutually beneficial efforts with external communities. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff, students, external community, and the public. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned College President or
the Chancellor.
Supervision Exercised
This position serves as immediate supervisor for all staff
who coordinate programs, initiatives, public information, instructional design,
custodial and office services.
Representative Duties
Plans, organizes, and administers the total operations,
educational programs and services; develops the master plan for future
colleges, covering all facilities, programs, services, and personnel; provides
leadership for the development of all programs and services; directs facility
planning and allocation; develops and administers budget; maintains close
contacts with all segments of the community to enhance image, build alliances
and coordinate mutually beneficial efforts, and to identify community
educational needs; represents the President or Chancellor; performs related
duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: management and program development; college curriculum including academic
occupational/vocational, student services, and community service programs;
teaching methods and administration of programs; facilities planning; staff
development, budgetary preparation; community college administrative procedures
and practices; multi‑cultural communities.
Ability
to: plan and direct the activities of a growing satellite campus through
subordinate staff; establish and maintain top level relationships within and
external to the organization; make effective public presentations; communicate
effectively orally and in writing.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a Masters Degree (doctorate degree
preferred) with extensive administrative experience including responsibility
for budget, instructional development, and/or facilities planning.
