Job Summary
At assigned college, serves as chief operational officer;
plans, organizes and generally directs the areas of admissions and records,
fiscal services, computer services facilities, maintenance, financial aid,
college information, marketing and public relations, personnel services,
student activities and security.
Scope
This position works in an assigned area. Responsibility may extend beyond this
assigned area because the Vice President functions as a member of the college
senior management team and may act on behalf of the College President in the
President's absence. Work contacts
include administrators, faculty, staff, students, representatives of other
educational institutions, professional organizations, vendors, community and
business and government leaders.
Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the College President; receives
broad direction related to college goals and objectives.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may supervise the
positions of Associate Vice President, Assistant Vice President, Director of
Admissions, Registration and Records, Fiscal Agent, Bursar, Manager College
Business Services, Director Building & Grounds, Manager Facilities,
Director Site Operations, Director Campus Police, Manager Technical Services,
Director College Technology, Associate Dean Technology, Director Student Life
& Leadership, Director Marketing & Public Relations, Manager Human
Resources, Director Athletics, Manager Disability Resources & Services and/or other assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Acts as an advisor to the College President in matters
pertaining to administrative services and programs in the District; plans and
directs the fiscal and general operation of the college and serves as college
representative on district operations councils and committees; oversees the
preparation of the college budget and administers the approved budget; plans
and conducts training programs for college personnel in budget administration;
reports regularly to appropriate college personnel on status of budget;
assesses college computer needs and abilities and develops operational and
equipment plans and recommendations; manages information technology operations;
develops and implements policies and procedures for the maintenance and
operation of the physical facilities, grounds and for the scheduling and
utilization of college facilities by college personnel and the community;
serves as college representative in working with agencies which provide
utilities and services to the college; directs the college personnel evaluation
program and recommends to the President the employment, retention or
termination of all college personnel; oversees resignations, leaves of
absences, transfers, reclassification, etc.; responsible for the security of
the persons and property of the college; recommends to the President major
additions and deletions of programs and services by the college; performs
related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: current practices in administration of community college operational areas
and related support activities such as college personnel practices, budgetary
management and operational program development.
Ability
to: assess college operational needs and develop responsive programs; manage
staff in planning and delivering services; coordinate activities with a variety
of college staff and departments; prepare and monitor budgets; communicate
effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships
with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree and experience in community
college operational programs and management.
Master's degree required; Doctorate preferred.
