Job Summary
Depending upon assigned college, plans,
organizes, manages
and directs corporate and college internal and external support
programs and
fundraising initiatives for the college.
Due to the nature of the position, this individual reports
directly to
the College President and will function as a member of the college
Management/Leadership team. The Vice
President shall advise the president on matters relating to the
college’s
strategic objectives in the areas of community and public affairs and
development.
Scope
This position works in the area of
Development. Responsibility may extend
beyond this area
because the Vice President functions as a member of the college senior
management team and may act on behalf of the College President in the
President’s absence. Work contacts
include college administrators, community and business leaders,
presidents and
CEO’s of private corporations, staff and representatives of other
educational
institutions, MCCCD Foundation Executive Director, and/or other staff.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the College
President; receives
broad direction related to college goals and objectives.
Supervision Exercised
Depending upon assigned college, this
position may supervise
the positions of deans, Directors, Managers, Coordinators, Assistant
Director
of Development, Administrative Assistants and/or other assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Acts as an advisor to the to the College
President in
matters pertaining to development and community relations in the
performance of
fundraising duties; develops and manages internal annual campaigns to
secure
ongoing support through solicitation and other sponsorship activities;
develops
and implements major giving and planned giving programs for the
college;
develops programs to enhance relationships with existing donors;
establishes
contact and develops new relationships with potential donors including
appropriate representatives of corporations, and other organizations,
supervises special events including donor recognition activities;
prepares
annual budget; operational and strategic plans for development and
community
relations department; oversees institutional advancement efforts of the
college
in partnership and collaboration with the business and educational
leaders
including scholarship fundraising and alumni development; develops,
supports
and maintains liaison relationships with business, industry and
community
partners; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of current practices and
principles of fundraising
in an educational environment, federal and state regulations governing
non-profit organizations; principles of fundraising in individual major
gifts,
corporate and annual giving; and higher education administration.
Ability to develop fundraising policy,
planning and strategy;
execute a comprehensive fundraising program at the college level;
renew,
maintain and sustain giving and long term fundraising; communicate
effectively
orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships in
the
course of performed assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training,
and experience that provides
the required knowledge and abilities. An
example of this would be a college degree and experience in community
relations, development and fundraising.
Master’s degree required; Doctorate degree preferred.
Special Conditions of Employment
Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
