Job Summary

Responsible for providing support and training for end-user reporting and data extraction needs from college and district-wide database applications as well as limited database management at the local college level.

Scope

This position works in the area of Information Technology Services. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, professionals, staff and vendors.

Supervision Received

This position reports to assigned administrators; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine and sensitive matters.

Supervision Exercised

May direct the work of data entry personnel as well as institutional research technicians.

Representative Duties

Analyzes reporting needs; identifies and implements standard end-user query and data extraction tools; researches new client server reporting and data access tools; analyzes specific use reporting requirements and provides access to information in college and district-wide database applications; provides end-user training and ongoing support for effective use of query and data extraction tools; coordinates the installation of query tool clients on user workstations; tracks and reports on requests for user query activity; database management of localized database applications; performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of: Oracle, Sybase, Informix; Informix; Structured Query Language (SQL) or MS/SQL; database design and end-user query tools (e.g., Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Actuate, etc.); operating systems (i.e., Novell, Windows NT, Unix, VMS); world wide web interfaces to database systems.

Ability to: design, develop and maintain custom reports, forms and end-user queries for a variety of database applications; interpret documentation and manuals; communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

Training and Experience

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be a college degree in Computer Information Systems , Computer Science, Software Engineering, Decision Support Systems, or Information/Library Science with specialized courses in relational databases and query tools. Vendor certification or training in the following software products, Oracle, Informix, or Sybase. Vendor certification or training in end user query tools such as Oracle Business Objects, Crystal Reports, or Accurate.

Special Conditions of Employment

Working Conditions

After-hours and weekend work may be required. On-call via phone and/or pager is required. Some positions may require a Class D Driver's License.
