FACULTY DEVELOPMENT; PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
The District Office of International & Intercultural Education, in collaboration with MCCCD's International Education Offices, congratulates the following faculty chosen to participate in the two-week pilot program to Prague from July 15 to 31, 2006! They are:

With Prague College serving as host, this program will enrich participants' understanding of a society and region undergoing massive structural changes. History, politics, economics, society and culture will be explored as well as the role of the Czech Republic within the European Union. Faculty-participants will develop a curriculum module based on their experiences. FACULTY DEVELOPMENT; SANTIAGO, CHILE
The District Office of International & Intercultural Education and the Maricopa Center for Learning & Instruction (MCLI) are pleased to announce the selected proposals for the Faculty Development Program in Santiago, Chile, June 3-30, 2006. This program provides our faculty a new and unique opportunity for professional growth and development that will contribute to the internationalization of the curriculum.
Ten proposals were received involving the participation of 34 faculty members. We were impressed with the enthusiastic response and the quality, creativity, and collaboration incorporated in the submissions. We appreciate the effort put forth by all of the faculty members. After thoughtful deliberations, the selection committee chose the following five projects:
- The Intersection of Environmental and Public Health Issues-EMCC
- Unraveling How the Geography, Resources, and Natural Disasters are Shrouded in the Culture, Myths, Traditions, and Communication Styles od Chileans-SMCC and SCC
- Internationalizing the Business Curriculum-PC
- Exploring the Indigenous Population of Chile: Investigating the Mapuche Culture-PC
- Adelante Chile!: Building International and Instructional Connections-MCC

| INITIATING A MARICOPA STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM |
Maricopa Community Colleges' study abroad programs are first initiated by Maricopa faculty
interested in offering a study abroad program. A proposal form is completed in collaboration with the individual college
Office of International Education and routed through a defined approval process as described in the Maricopa
Community Colleges' Study Abroad Guidelines. The guidelines detail
study abroad requirements and procedures and include orientation handouts and other helpful documents

| INNOVATION (INTERNAL) GRANTS |
|
Administered through the district international & intercultural education office, International & Intercultural Innovation Grants
are intended to foster innovation and project start-up in the Maricopa Community Colleges. Grants are funded on a competitive basis through a
grant proposal process. Funding decisions are made by the district-wide International & Intercultural Education Steering Committee. |

| Fulbright |
The Traditional Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. scholars and
professionals each year to more than 140 countries, where they lecture or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.
The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program
provides short-term Fulbright grants of two to six weeks. Activities offer U.S. faculty
and professionals opportunities to collaborate on curriculum and faculty development,
institutional planning and a variety of other activities.
