Audio Video Services

Just Keeps FlowingThe Audio/Video department went through little change this year. Mark Butler became a part of Network Services and worked closely with that department.

A second video project was completed this past year that included wiring the Governing Board Room for several more cameras, audio/video distribution, and an editing system for the video projects. With the addition of the extra cameras, the Governing Board meetings look much more professional, allowing several different angles to be recorded. These meetings were presented both live and "on-demand" from the network's IP/TV server. In the future, there is talk about airing these meetings over the District's new cable channel offered by Cox Cable. These new cameras will definitely be valuable in that scenario.

IP/TV is the new "content delivery" system that the District started last year. This system allows for live coverage of events that can be broadcast to computers that have the software loaded on it and also for getting content "on demand" just like a VCR would allow. The software was upgraded in this latest video project that allows Apple computers to now enjoy the same content as the PCs have. It also allows for Mpeg2 decoding, which will stream the video at a lower rate while increasing the quality. Training Services is looking in to this type of delivery system for some of their training needs. Several vignettes have already been recorded and are available to anyone that has IP/TV on their computer. Look for them in the "on-demand" section of the Content Manager.

The new editing system allows professional quality video recordings to be produced. Along with cut/paste tools, this system will allow for the addition of text to be inserted for titles, subtitles, etc. giving the look and feel of broadcast quality videos.
