Wide Area Network Services

Bridging the GapThere have been several "new" happenings here in Network Services this past fiscal year, including new personnel, new equipment, and new technologies being introduced.

Stewart Adkins and Johnny Baba have both left Maricopa Community Colleges to pursue their interests in the corporate world. Meanwhile we have the pleasure of a new hire in Jeff Caslake, who transferred here from South Mountain Community College. Jeff has taken over where Johnny and Stewart left off and is doing an excellent job. He recently received his CCNA from Cisco and will be pursuing his CCNP this fall at South Mountain Community College. Sorry, South Mountain, you can't have him back!

Bruce Huston is still at the helm, keeping this ever-growing network purring along. As technology changes, so grows the network in complexity. With new technologies such as VoIP, wireless, and Security issues, Bruce is constantly being challenged and so far has kept up with the task.

Bettie Johnston, the office administrator, is responsible for keeping an eye on the budget (a daunting task in itself), maintaining our Network maps for all to see(in the Network Services section on our home page), and doing all of the day-to-day tasks such as answering the help desk phone for networking, supply ordering, etc. She is a great asset for any department.

John Hawkins, the Manager of Technology Planning, is the "operational" side of networking. He is responsible for the budget, looking at what's "on the horizon" (along with Bruce's help), and working with the colleges on their infrastructure projects. With the slowdown of building construction, John's new role is to learn more of the technical side of networking. That's a scary thought!!

More detailed information about the Wide Area Network at Maricopa during the 2000-2001 fiscal year is available. Monthly status reports about the Wide Area Network are available from the ITS Status Report System.
