The Road We've Traveled: Projects and Progress in ITS 1998-99
Executive Summary

This year, the theme of the ITS Annual Report is "The Road We’ve Traveled." When asking ITS staff members about the past year, the issue of continued movement and transition quickly becomes a major focal point in the conversation. A substantial group of individuals in influential roles have left ITS in the past year, resulting in an organizational restructuring and major transitions for many staff members. Even at the conclusion of the year, while it’s clear where we’ve been during this past year, there are many unknown roads ahead of us.

This report is divided into six major sections, one for each of the areas that report directly to Ron Bleed, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Services, and a final one for continuing or future projects that both indicates possible directions and highlights some of the challenges facing ITS and Maricopa. In many cases, additional information is available on the ITS website.

In addition to normal maintenance and operations, each of the areas in ITS have been involved in one or more major projects during the past year including:

    • Budget Development System development
    • Departmental Restructuring
    • Help Desk Software installation and upgrade
    • Kronos Time and Attendance implementation
    • Library Systems upgrade
    • Local Area Network operating system upgrade
    • Oracle Government Financials upgrade
    • PeopleSoft Human Resource Management System implementation
    • Telecommunications Improvement Project implementation
    • Wide Area Network ATM implementation
    • Year 2000 conversions, testing, and system replacements

We trust that you find this report useful, enlightening, and perhaps even entertaining at times.
