Staffing

Filling in the holeIn an effort to fill the hole known as "need more staff," ITS used several methods to augment the need for specific skills in employees. We experienced difficulty in staffing for a New Era, so we had student interns, mentoring, one-year only, employees using OJT, and those who received extensive training. Also in an effort to integrate current skills and mold new skill sets, there was considerable movement of employees across colleges and the District Office.

Technology cannot be allowed to wash over us, so we must be in the lead. The challenge is to discover staff who wanted to take the lead. Global IT entities work towards the future with perks, salaries and challenges, and Maricopa found itself having limited success in filling roles. Building for a New Era required innovation, but we could only have innovation tempered with personnel who must also support applications and hardware. To build for this New Era, we explored ways to utilize our staff and through planning provided the support needed by our students.

More detailed information about ITS staffing at Maricopa during the 1999-2000 fiscal year is available.
