Trial Databases Spring 2007

Access to the following trail databases have been turned off.

These databases are being considered for subscription in the future.  The review process for database additions occurs twice a year, once in the fall, and again in early spring.  Please let us know what you think of these resources in the comments form below.

For access to databases that require a username and/or a password, please contact the reference desk at your college library. You may submit multiple comments.

AnthroSource (American Anthropological Association)
AnthroSource provides current issues for 15 peer-reviewed journals, including American Anthropologist, American Ethnologist, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, and Medical Anthropology Quarterly as well as archival coverage.  Historical coverage back to 100 years ago.  “[AnthroSource] is an evolving, interactive repository of research and communications tools designed to bring the most credible and relevant of anthropological scholarship together in one place and to support a strong community of scholars, teachers, and students in the field.”

Art Museum Image Gallery (H.W. Wilson)

Collection of over 155,000 digital images and related multimedia from the most prestigious museums worldwide.

ATLA Religion Database + ATLAS (Ovid Technologies)
From the American Theological Library Association, this is the leading international database of access to periodicals, book collections and book reviews to support religious and theological research.  The content covers 1949 to the present with links to the full text at the ATLAS website.  Coverage includes full text access to 70 of the world’s leading religious journals.

Biography Reference Bank (H.W. Wilson)
Combines content from Current Biography, World Authors series, Junior Authors & Illustrators and biographical content, fulltext and abstracts, from other Wilson databases.  Content is narrative as well as pictures, now includes more than 500,000 people with links to over 380,000 full text articles.

Communication & Mass Media Complete (EBSCO)
Database is designed to support communications and mass media fields of study.  Content includes full text coverage of 292 journals, cover-to-cover indexing and abstracting for 400 journals, and selective indexing and abstracting for 200 more titles.  Profiles about article authors are also present.  Searching is available by keyword and communication thesaurus.

Current Issues: Reference Shelf Plus (H.W. Wilson)
This database provides “…full-text articles from key publications on social, scientific, health, political and global issues.” Contains about 30 articles per topic with a focus on balanced coverage of the issue.  Selective qualitative websites are highlighted.

DynaMed (EBSCO)
A clinical reference tool created by physicians for health care professionals, DynaMed
is designed to answer clinical questions encountered at the point-of-care about nearly 2,000 topics.  New evidence learned from reviewing over 500 medical journals is integrated into topics daily, with conclusions/recommendations changed as appropriate to research findings.

EconLit (Ovid Technologies)
Produced by the American Economic Association.  Topics include economic development, forecasting, and history; fiscal theory; monetary theory and financial institutions; business finance; public finance; and international, labour, health care, managerial, demographic, regional, agricultural, and urban economics; country studies, and government regulations. Provides bibliographic citations for journals with links to full text, books, and dissertations with links to full text to international literature on economics since 1969.

GeoRef (Ovid Technologies)
From the American Geological Institute, includes access to geoscience journal articles with links to full text, books, maps, and the publications of the U.S. Geological Survey.  Coverage is 1785 to the present.

JSTOR
JSTOR is a not-for-profit organization with a dual mission to create and maintain a trusted archive of important scholarly journals, and to provide access to these journals as widely as possible. JSTOR offers researchers the ability to retrieve high-resolution, scanned images of journal issues and pages as they were originally designed, printed, and illustrated. The journals archived in JSTOR span many disciplines.

MathSci on Ovid (Ovid Technologies)
Covering the world’s mathematical literature from 1940 to the present, it is comprised of Mathematical Reviews, a reviewing journal of international mathematics literature, and Current Mathematical Publications, a subject index of bibliographical data for recent and forthcoming publications.

Naxos Music Library (Naxos)
Contains access to more than 170,000 tracks of music from approximately 11,700 cd’s, focusing on classical music as well as blues, jazz, world/folk and Chinese music with about 7,000 composers represented.  Additional content includes history of opera and classical music, opera synopses and libretti.  Content is delivered in “…cd quality sound (128Kbps; broadband required); near-CD quality (64Kbps; broadband or DSL / ISDN required) and FM quality (20Kbps; suitable for a dial-up connection).

Naxos Music Library Jazz (Naxos)

Contains access to more than 20,000 music tracks from 2,000 jazz cd’s.  Content is delivered in “…cd quality sound (128Kbps; broadband required); near-CD quality (64Kbps; broadband or DSL / ISDN required) and FM quality (20Kbps; suitable for a dial-up connection).  Content is updated monthly.

Project MUSE Premium Collection (Project MUSE)
Project MUSE provides full-text online access to the complete content of over 300 humanities, arts, and social sciences journals from 60 scholarly publishers.  Backfiles containing 10 years of content are available for some titles.

RefWorks (RefWorks)

RefWorks is an online, research management, writing and collaboration tool.”  Use the internet-based software to import and organize references for works cited and bibliographies, import references into papers.  Replaces the index card system for organizing and creating a personal database online.  Import content from RSS feeds automatically. Functions on all platforms.

Twentieth-Century Drama (ProQuest)

Currently contains about 800 plays--slated to expand to 2,500--from around the world, published between the 1890’s and 2004, and written in the English language.  Examples of dramatic styles represented are alternative, radical, regional, postcolonial, and women’s theater.  Historical drama, political plays, farce and thrillers are also contained as well as plays from Broadway’s and London’s West End.

Wilson OmniFile Full Text, Mega Edition (H.W. Wilson)

Includes “…full text articles from nearly 2,300 publications, many are peer-reviewed.”  Additional 1,700 titles are available with abstracts only.  Complete content from Education, General Science, Humanities, Readers’ Guide, Social Sciences and Wilson Business full text databases.  Journal content only from Applied Science & Technology, Art, Biological & Agricultural, Legal Periodicals, and Library Literature full text databases.  Includes links to websites cited by authors.
