Data and Graphs

In Data & Graphs students learn to read, analyze and create many types of graphs. Their final project is to gather data, create graphs, and develop a convincing argument to bring a specific fast food restaurant onto campus (at the student union or cafeteria).

Lesson 1

May I Take Your Order?
Students interpret bar graphs and begin the discussion on how to pick the best fast food chain for their campus.

Lesson 2

Lesson 3

The Graphing Gourmet.
In this lesson students learn how to create (by hand) bar graphs, pie charts, and line graphs. They work from real data about the fast food industry.

Lesson 4

Waiter, There's a Whisker in My Soup!
Box and Whisker plots are created by the students. Nitty Gritty: Percent Increase.

Lesson 5

Students learn how to use technology to create bar graphs, pie charts, line graphs, and box and whisker plots. They also learn to use the Internet as a source for current data.

Lesson 6

Let's Get Cooking
Students learn to read complicated data sets (like those found in a company's annual report) and sort out the useful information.
