Designing Your Course

The Maricopa Mathematics Modules are designed to be taught at the Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, Beginning Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra levels of College Mathematics. The lesson titles may not give you any idea of the mathematics that is in each module.

To help you in constructing your course, we have assembled many documents. The modules are listed in suggested levels on the module main page. These levels are only suggested. We have taught many of the modules at different levels.

Select the modules that closely match your desired student competencies. To help in this selection, refer to a matrix of competencies.

In your selection figure that each module is equal to about one semester credit hour; that is, a 3-credit course could expect to complete three modules. Generally, we recommend using the modules in a 4 or 5 credit course, covering 4 or 5 modules. However, we have done them in a 3 credit course.

As you review the modules for selection, be aware that our depth of coverage is quite different from conventional texts. For example, we may spend weeks developing the function concept and spend only one lesson exploring rational functions. We have recognized that not all competencies are created equal: building a few basic concepts provides a basis for skill development.
