MCCCD Management, Administration, and Technology: Certification Procedures

Compensation for Certification
Procedure for submitting an Application Request

  1. Review all information for the Compensation for Educational/Certification Advancement Program posted on the MAT web page.
  2. Verify that the certificate is on one of the "Certificates and Assigned Points" lists.
  3. If the certification is not on one of the lists, submit a "Petition to Add Certificate" found on the MAT web page for certificate evaluation and approval to the MAT Compensation for Certification Chair.
    • Follow the instructions on the form and be sure to include all requested information. The committee needs all information for the evaluation process.
    • Be sure to include specific online resources for verifying the information on the application.
  4. When the certificate is added to the list, proceed with the certification process.
  5. Be sure to retain copies of all certificates and exam documentation.

Procedure for submitting an application request for compensation

  1. Verify from the lists of certificates that you have earned at least 400 points.
  2. Verify there are no duplications of exams or certificates in the 400 points. An exam or certificate may be counted one time only.
  3. Obtain the current Application Request from the MAT web page.
  4. Complete the application information. If there is not enough space for all exams or certificates, use a second application.
  5. Assemble an application set to include the application, copies of all certificates and/or copies of all exam results, and any other supporting documentation. A transcript may not be accepted in lieu of certificates.
  6. Assemble the number of sets as designated on the Application Request. Be sure to include the original signed application request in one of the sets.
  7. Send all sets to the MAT CC Chair by the first Wednesday of the month by 5:00 p.m. FAXed copies will not be accepted.
  8. The recommendation of the committee will be emailed to the MAT employee within the month.
  9. The committee chair will send the original approved application set to Wage and Salary for processing. A copy set will be archived in the MAT CC Committee files.
  10. Employee Relations will verify that the employee is eligible for salary compensation (has not already received two increments since July 1, 2001 and is a regular MAT employee).
  11. If the MAT employee qualifies, Employee Relations sends a PAR (Personnel Action Request) form to Payroll for processing.
  12. Compensation for certifications will be effective in the payroll period following confirmation of the award(s) and employee eligibility. (An exception will be extended for FY 2001-2002 only, during which period any certifications will be retroactively compensated to the date the final qualifying points (certificates) were awarded.)
