MCCCD Management, Administration, and Technology: MAT PG General Information

Professional Growth funds are awarded to MAT members by the MAT Professional Growth Committee. The budget for the 2008-2009 fiscal year is $814,401. These funds support MAT sabbaticals, tuition reimbursement, conference and seminar expenses, and the annual MAT conference each Spring. The $814,401 budget is currently divided as follows:

  • $20,000 for the MAT conference each Spring (unused funds are returned to the PG pool)
  • $165,111 for MAT sabbaticals
  • $599,290 for PG activities and tuition reimbursement

    The maximum professional growth award per MAT employee is currently $3,000 per fiscal year.  These funds are available for tuition reimbursement, professional conferences, and training workshops.

    Tuition is covered at the current rate for public state universities (ASU, NAU, and UA).  Tuition is covered up to $250.00 per semester credit hour or up to $187.50 per quarter credit hour at out of state or private colleges and universities.  University fees other than general tuition and required textbook costs are not covered by professional growth funds. June of the current fiscal year is the last opportunity to apply for a fourth quarter tuition award for the current fiscal year.

    Activities include professional workshops, conferences, and seminars.  Professional growth funds can be used to cover registration costs, lodging, meals, air fare and $50 toward ground transportation. Professional growth funds will not be awarded to cover mileage or meals within Maricopa County, membership fees, recreational trips, banquets, meals already included in the conference fee, or telecommunications.

    MAT employees may apply for a sabbatical after completing a minimum of four full consecutive years of employment at the Maricopa Community Colleges to be eligible for a leave of four months
    OR
    MAT employees may apply for a sabbatical after completing a minimum of five full consecutive years of employment at the Maricopa Community Colleges to be eligible for a leave of five months
    OR
    MAT employees may apply for a sabbatical after completing a minimum of six full consecutive years of employment at the Maricopa Community Colleges to be eligible for a leave of six months.

    The annual MAT conference is held each Spring at a college or local resort.  The conference is an all day event with guest speakers, workshops, and a lunch meeting.  All MAT employees are invited at no charge.
