Public Invited to Discover Glendale CC North
The science, math, psychology and nursing departments and a high-tech, state-of-the-art fitness center will be highlighted and offer demonstrations at an upcoming open house at Glendale Community College North.
Current or prospective students and interested community members are invited to "DISCOVER the Mind, Body & Soul of GCC North" between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, April 3. The campus is located at 5727 W. Happy Valley Road. The event and parking are free.
A highlight of the day will be a display of newly acquired plastinated body parts that are enhancing the study of human anatomy around the world and at GCC North. (GCC Main also has a number of plastinated body parts used in instruction.) These amazingly detailed specimens are preserved using the plastination method invented by Gunther von Hagens, whose famous multiple-whole-body exhibit, Body Worlds, visited the Arizona Science Center in 2007. GCC is currently the only institution of higher education in Arizona now using these plastinated body parts for the teaching of biology and nursing.
GCC North opened four new buildings in August 2008, and tours of these buildings will also be available during the open house.
