MCCCD has
been live on SIS for six weeks. Across the District, on a daily basis,
the
system is now handling thousands of successful transactions. Because
the
project and college teams are so immersed in resolving issues and
fixes, we
have not really taken the time to pause and reflect that the aggregate
number
of successful daily transactions is noteworthy for such a complex cut
over and SIS implementation.
As
mentioned in previous updates, we are now in the cycle of
implementation where
the anticipated challenges and issues are emerging. Just to give you an
idea of
the type of challenges the teams are dealing with on a daily basis
below is a sample list of our system fix “To Do
List.”
- Identity management
feed delay (time a student sets up an account until he/she can use SIS)
- Enrollment verification
process
- W grade on the class
roster
- Improving the wording
on the my.Maricopa.edu web site
- Daily financial aid
check runs
- Enrollment cancellation
process
- Class schedule viewing
We are
providing this insight so you can see in real terms that with any large
and
complex SIS implementation that system fixes will be required as the
daily
business processes expose glitches and problems. In response to this,
the
college and project teams continue to meet daily through conference
calls where
the issues are discussed and strategies for resolution are determined.
Soon the
project will announce a post cut over governance structure that will
introduce
a steering team (to determine future directions and policy level
issues) and a
streamlined SIS operational team. Following soon will be the
establishment of
criteria that will assist project leadership in prioritizing and
allocating
resources to address both the daily fixes and the roll out of
post-implementation
modifications and new functionality.
