Thanks to the FEC for this letter of support.  I am pleased with the discussion on this initiative at the legislature and within Maricopa.  I will work with CEC and FEC to assure faculty involvement and leadership as the legislation evolves.  rg

Please find attached the Faculty Executive Council's public statement to the Arizona State Legislature regarding HB 2079.  After the FEC retreat on March 29, the faculty discussed the issues surrounding this bill and we believe that our support of this bill is valuable.

The Faculty Executive Council and the faculty-at-large have identified many of the strengths and challenges involved in the direction towards a Maricopa Community Colleges' baccalaureate program.  Although we support in concept such a baccalaureate program, we have questions and concerns about the implementation of such a program and its impact on our mission, resources and faculty.  The faculty expects to be involved in the planning and design of these programs.  In addition, faculty-driven curriculum development must remain to insure the continuing quality and integrity of teaching and learning in Maricopa.
