12 Month Pay Schedule
|
| |
After
several months of discussion with district representatives, the Faculty
Executive Council is pleased to announce that the option of a 12-month
salary schedule will be available for the academic year
2005-2006. Faculty who would like to have their 9 month pay
spread out over 12 months will be able to select that option during the
open enrollment period this spring. The new payroll process
will begin with the first paycheck in the fall of 2005.
From that point on, a faculty member who has selected the
12-month-option will receive a paycheck every two weeks. More
information about this option will be available during open enrollment.

Meet & Confer |
|
Meet
& Confer is progressing well this year. The
faculty opened negotiations with the Board team on October
11, 2004. Since this is the first year
under the new Meet & Confer process established from last year’s
negotiations, both the Faculty and Board teams are paying close
attention to
the established timeline to ensure it is followed and, most
importantly, is of
benefit to the entire process. The
Faculty team is proposing changes for accountability, faculty hiring
processes,
probationary faculty evaluations, salary, and cost-of-living increases,
including increases to the service faculty and instructional overload
rates. We are also introducing new
language to the RFP to address mediation, internal investigations and
protection
of faculty rights, and retiree insurance options. There
are additional proposals to clarify current language.
We have scheduled monthly meetings for both
teams to discuss and collaborate on these issues.
This year we are emphasizing the importance of collaboration between
the two
teams. The faculty believe that many of
our proposals will not only benefit the faculty, but also improve the
learning
environment for our students. The Board team has been very open to our
proposals and willing to work together with us on language. The Faculty team appreciates the faculty who
have responded to our calls for input and the students
who have shared their insights on
instructors’ access.

Faculty Convocation
|
| |
Don't forget to
register for the Faculty Convocation on Friday, January 7. This
year we will be celebrating Maricopa Faculty with sessions showcasing
sabbaticals, summer projects, learning grants, etc. There will
also be sessions where faculty can learn more about how to apply and
participate in these professional growth opportunities. Steve
Saffron, a Maricopa faculty member, will kick off the day with a
presentation on the importance of laughter, humor and play. We
have over $1,600 in gift certificates to great restaurants, as well as
Phoenix Suns tickets, that will be awarded to those in
attendance. Instructional Councils and the Faculty Legislative
Committee will have time to meet in the afternoon as well. Go to MCLI to
register for this event.
