ITS Program Review
|
| |
After last
semester's disastrous experiences with Blackboard and Midas, the
Faculty Executive Council formally requested that a program review of
district Instructional Technology Services be instituted
immediately. The
letter requesting this review can be
found at the FA website. |

Meet
& Confer Update |
|
Your faculty team is working hard
to improve working conditions, salary and benefits during the Meet and
Confer process this year. Over 17 proposals have been presented
so far and it is hoped that many of these will be
approved. Stay tuned for more information next month. |

MAT
Reclassification |
|
At the last
Governing Board meeting, the Faculty Executive Council spoke in support
of the proposed changes to the MAT job descriptions and
reclassifications. This was due to several reasons which
included: the MAT job descriptions had not been reviewed or updated for
15 years; the external consultant found that over 50% of MAT employees
were working out of scope; and that the recommendations for
increases in the Grade/Salary structure had not been moved forward to
the Governing Board. (In other words, CEC did not accept the
recommendation that the higher end of the grade structure be increased
from 21 to 25 and that the top salary range be increased from $128,921
to 159.594.) The members of FEC believe that all
employees be compensated in a fair and equitable manner, that reflects
current market value. For
more information, go to the FA web site. |

January Convocation |
|
|
Many of the Maricopa Faculty celebrated
the beginning of the spring semester by attending the January 7th
Convocation at Phoenix College. Workshops were available to
assist faculty in writing sabbatical applications, learning grants and
summer projects. In addition, previously awarded projects in each
of these categories were showcased.
Steve Saffron celebrated his last day as a Maricopa faculty member with
his Laughter, Humor and Play presentation . Those who were not in
attendance missed the opportunity to witness dance moves rarely seen in
clubs these days!
The Faculty Association celebrated our most senior faculty, at least
those in attendance. Jim Mancuso and Rajinder Kalia tied for the
most years of service at
36, and won tickets to an upcoming Phoenix Suns game.
The highlight of lunch was the raffle, where over twenty faculty were
the winners of gift certificates for meals, books and other
prizes. If you missed this year's convocation, try to get to the
2006 celebration. You can't win if you don't play! |

FEC
meets with Senator Linda Gray |
| |
|
In an effort
to continue to promote Maricopa Faculty and their interests, the
Faculty Executive Council will meet at the Capital on Tuesday, February
8 to meet with Senator Linda Gray, the Chair of the
University/Community College and Technology Committee. We hope
that this meeting will lead to more faculty involvement in higher
education initiatives at the state level.
Happy
Valentine's Day!
