Outline of Staffing Process
The Staffing Committee Chair shall be responsible for maintaining the Best Practices Manual and transferring the manual to the next Chair
RFP Mandate
The President of the Faculty Senate is responsible for appointing at least four faculty members to the committee and calling the first meeting.
An instructional administrator will be a nonvoting member of this committee.
The staffing committee will consult with Department/Division Chairpersons and other appropriate personnel in order to make recommendations on the staffing of residential faculty positions.
The committee’s recommendations will be delivered to the College President/Provost.
Staffing Committee – Chair Responsibilities
Develop and present a draft of a staffing calendar, work to develop justification form and evaluation criteria with the committee.
Ensure the committee reviews and finalizes the staffing calendar, request justification form and evaluation criteria in a timely manner. Upon agreement, transmit the calendar, form and criteria to all Department Chairs.
Note: The CTL Director and the Director of the Business and Industry Institute (B&I) are not a Department Chairs but they must be included on the distribution list because they are responsible for staffing activities within their units.
The MCC Chair distribution list for email is:
DL-MC-CHAIRS <dl-mc-chairs@mcmail.maricopa.edu>
Ensure an appropriate meeting room (LB205 recommended) is reserved for all staffing meetings.
Obtain appropriate research and planning data from the Office of Planning and Research. Ensure the data is supplied to committee members in a timely manner.
Establish a meeting time, early in the calendar, whereby the Dean of Instruction and the committee can meet to discuss staffing issues pertinent to the current cycle. (OYO’s, Approved but not hired positions, OYO conversions to RFP positions, Split campus considerations, General college hiring needs)
As early in the process as possible, inform the Associate Deans of the date and time they are to meet with the committee. Historically they have provided input to the committee concerning the staffing requests from their area.
As staffing requests are received from the Chairs/CTL the Staffing Committee Chair forwards them to the committee members. The Chair should also keep a summary log of requests received and forwarded.
Once the recommendation list is finalized, the recommendations will be discussed with the President of MCC by the Chair of the Staffing Committee and the Senate President to further a “meeting of the minds” concerning the staffing recommendations. Additionally, courtesy copies are provided to the Dean of Instruction, the Faculty Senate and the Chair of the DCA.
