Staffing committee best practices

Committee develops two recommendation lists:

    One-Year-Only  &  Permanent Faculty Hires

Considerations for the OYO list

·        “Program Development” has been a primary consideration for placement on this list.

·        Review of second and third year OYO’s with priority preference over first-time requests.

Considerations for the “Permanent Faculty Hires” list

·        One listing, to include new positions, vacated lines and OYO conversions.

·        Vacated faculty lines are not automatically reallocated to the department from which they came.  All vacated faculty lines are returned to the college staffing pool.  The staffing committee reviews the needs of the department(s) in which the vacancies occurred versus the needs of the college and determines whether the line(s) will remain within the department or be reassigned.  There is a presumption that the line will remain with the department unless there are extenuating circumstances that require reassigned.

·        Ease or difficulty in hiring adjunct faculty

·        Enrollment/section size growth

·        Full-time vs adjunct faculty ratio

·        Southern & Dobson vs Red Mountain considerations

·        49% Considerations (officially announced retirements)

·        Single-faculty program considerations

·        Faculty vs MAT considerations

·        “Comprehensive” Program considerations

·        Prior year positions – approved for hire but not filled

·        OYO’s for new program development received consideration.  Committee will call itself back into session for mid-cycle new program development OYO’s
