Staffing Procedures

These procedures have been agreed upon between MCC Administration, Faculty Senate and Department Chair Association.  One-year-only and one-semester-only contracts due to expanded enrollment are not covered by these procedures.

Filling Approved and Assigned Positions

All positions that were approved and assigned to a Department the previous year but some for reason were not permanently filled still exist in the Department budget and can be posted without going back to the staffing committee.

Filling Vacated Position

When a faculty position is vacated the Chair of the Department will notify the appropriate Associate Dean and the Chair of the Faculty Staffing Committee.  The Associate Dean, Chair and Staffing Committee will determine if the position is still mission critical.  Based upon their findings, each will recommend to the Dean of Instruction to retain the line in the appropriate Department and approve posting of the position or send the line back to the staffing committee for reallocation.

Program Development Positions

Requests for program development positions, consistent with the Departmental strategic plan, will be forwarded to the Staffing Committee for analysis and recommendation.  After a staffing committee review, and if the Dean of Instruction approves, a permanent line will be assigned to the Department budget.  The position will be filled with a one-year-only contract for a maximum of three years or until agreed upon increased enrollment or program development has been achieved.  If program objectives are met, the College President will authorize the posting of a permanent faculty position.  If the programs objectives are not met, the position will be returned to the staffing process for reallocation.
