Special Report on EBAC Activities

Regi Munro reported that EBAC would have an important meeting with Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BCBS) on Monday, February 10, 2003.  EBAC intends to ask if the District is paying more money than what BCBS is giving in the way of services.  Regi stated that EBAC is also focusing on Wellness Programs in the District and is working on ways to get employees involved in Wellness Programs and Preventative Health Care.  Regi said that there was a link on the District's website regarding wellness activities with links to the campuses offer wellness activities such as health fairs.  One idea was to have health people give presentations; however, Dr. Glasper said there was no money to provide that service.  Another idea was to have a contact person at each campus who could oversee preventative health care and BCBS would give information such as preventative care, services, and the tiered drug program to those contact people.  Regi Munro said that EBAC got approval on the campus contact people idea.  EBAC will have a booth at the Heart Association event.  Council asked how it could help with the wellness initiative.  Regi stated that Council could help get the word out on wellness activities at the campuses, participate in those wellness programs, and also get the students and communities involved.  Regi said that a draft of the wellness program was prepared.  Council discussed the campus fitness centers and classes that require paperwork and asked Regi if the paperwork could be reduced.  Regis stated that paperwork was needed for liability purposes.  Asked if Maricopa employees were to become very involved in wellness programs, would BCBS give Maricopa a wellness dividend, Regi responded that other health care providers do so and EBAC would expect the same from BCBS, which could be a long-term cost benefit.
