Guests: Doyle Burke & Janet Regner,
Legislative Report

Doyle Burke distributed copies of the legislation that the Legislative Committee has been tracking at the Arizona State Legislature.  He reviewed the bills for Council.  Doyle asked Council members to get faculty to call their legislators on the bill that would incorporate dual enrollment into the Arizona Revised Statutes, part of the community colleges' technical corrections bill, S1212.  Janet Regner stated that the biggest issues were the growth money and dual enrollment legislation.  She continued that the community colleges' technical corrections bill was "stuck" and that faculty needed to contact legislators to address that bill otherwise the situation with the State Board would remain status quo and the dual enrollment language would not become statute.  Janet stated that the time to contact legislators regarding the budget and funding for growth and dual enrollment was now because when the Legislature goes into special session it will be too late to impact the budget.  Janet also distributed information on the full scope of services provided by Jamieson Gutierrez.

Janet Regner was asked how difficult it would be to ask the state auditor's office to perform an operational audit of the 301 monies that the District has received.  Council discussed this question.  Janet Regner responded that Council could give that request to Doyle Burke to find out.  Council discussed the bill regarding the rights of students to meet in community college facilities.  Council discussed further HCR 2009, which would limit growth money to community colleges and voiced great concern of the prospect of the bill passing.  Council asked that faculty call their legislators on this bill.  Faculty who are interested in receiving legislative alerts should send their home e-mail addresses to Doyle Burke, Legislative Committee Chair or Carrie Taylor, Faculty Association secretary.  Janet Regner stated that she would like to coordinate efforts with RR Partners on the salary issue in order to knowledgeable should any legislator would ask her questions.
