Council learned of a concern that dependents of active retiree faculty do not get tuition waivers to take classes at Maricopa. It was stated that tuition waivers were not a great expense, costing the District approximately $7000 per year. It was suggested that allowing tuition waivers for the dependents of active retirees would improve public relations for the District. A motion was made and seconded to approve tuition waivers for active retirees' dependents. A point was made that tuition waivers were not allowed for domestic partners at all, so one vote would oppose the motion. A suggestion was made to investigate the ramifications of tuition waivers for domestic partners, active retirees and their dependents, and active retirees when they fully retire.
