Sandra Stuebner reminded Council of the drafted college safety recommendation that she shared at the last Council meeting.  Sandra informed Council that she had reworded the draft to reflect that those persons signing the recommendation supported it.  She said that she, Scott Geddis, and the two Deans of Students Services serving on the college safety committee had signed the recommendation, which was then forwarded to Dr. Glasper for his review.  One Council member asked if the group had focused on arming safety officers and centralizing the safety departments.  Sandra said it was suggested that the safety group meet to work on their issues.  One recommendation was to share safety officers among the colleges when a big event, such as the US President's visit to MCC, is planned at a college.  It was noted that the colleges have very different safety departments, and the safety group meets only once or twice a year.  Council was reminded that it and future Councils cannot forget faculty opinions, so that the drive to arm officers, centralize the safety departments, and hire a District safety director does not occur again.  Sandra said that the proposed recommendation would come back to the employee groups after it is shared with the CEC and that Council can revisit the recommendation at that time.
