Jill Seymour brought to Council copies of a 2007-2008 update of the Faculty Professional Growth (FPG) budget. Council reviewed the budget update, and Jill explained the approval process for how to distribute the funds between sabbaticals, summer projects and travel. She said that the Professional Growth Committee recommends splitting the funds using the traditional formula of 60% to sabbaticals, 20% to summer projects, and 20% to travel and asked for Council's approval of the FPG Committee's recommendation. Council discussed unused FPG funds from last year's summer projects and travel rolling over into this year. It was mentioned that the number of sabbatical applications was lower this year. A question was raised regarding the funds given to Professional Growth that were used to give the faculty at the top of the salary schedule an additional 1% raise last year. Jill said that she would double check to ensure that those funds were committed to FPG and would remain permanent funds for FPG. Council was reminded that the monies in the accounts are fungible among all three accounts. Council discussed how the FPG monies are used particularly in the sabbatical area. Council was told there should be a motion for the known or set amount of money now, while Jill Seymour checks on the additional money for FPG that was from the 1% given last year to faculty at the top of the salary schedule. During the Business Section of the meeting, Council took the following action. A motion was made and seconded to approve the Faculty Professional Growth Committee's recommendation of a 60/20/20 split of the set or known FPG funds. A vote was taken, and the motion passed unanimously.
