One Maricopa

Council discussed the Chancellor's One Maricopa initiative and the suggestion to focus on a strategic approach to this issue.  Discussion ensued regarding faculty in one discipline being told by their Instructional Council what their syllabi would contain; curriculum and other people making new prefixes for courses; the colleges being individually accredited; eroding FTSE; regional presidents; and the lack of accountability and public stewardship of the Administration.  Council discussed developing a strategic plan to address what is occurring in the District and with the Administration.  It was suggested that Dr. Glasper be asked how One Maricopa would benefit students and in turn faculty.  Another suggestion was to invite Dr. Glasper to visit with Council to discuss One Maricopa and other issues.  A point was made that Council would need to strategically plan for a meeting with Dr. Glasper.  Another point was made that it might behoove Council to have One Maricopa defined while preserving the ten colleges' cultures thus being proactive and sharing best practices.  Council agreed that Council needs to get involved in this issue, find out what definition is and what is going on as well as defining One Maricopa from Council's viewpoint and what it looks like five years down the road.
