Governing Board members were asked to respond to the following question:
How do you see a Code of Ethics benefiting the employees and students of MCCCD?
Governing Board President Gene Eastin:
I support the concept of a Code of Ethics for the District. However, only if supported by the employees of the District is such a code valid. Without that support, a code is merely a statement. Understanding the reasoning behind the District initiative to develop a Code of Ethics, I applaud the efforts of all those who contributed to it.
Governing Board Member Linda Rosenthal:
A code of ethics, or a statement of ethics is just a set of words on a piece of paper, and unless everyone agrees to follow the code, it's meaningless. The Governing Board has had a code of conduct for many years and it's time that the entire organization developed one. Hopefully, the development experience itself will establish what's important to the organization and this will help guide the way in which we serve our many communities.
Governing Board Member Nancy Stein:
We just need to ensure that as this code develops, we don't lose sight of the fact that everyone from the Chancellor, CEC, Faculty, PSA, M&O, everyone, will be expected to abide by it, and equally important, to model it for our students.
