Considering Peoplesoft programming "quirks," and problems during the spring semester, faculty are advised to review pay stubs for accuracy, particularly of accumulated sick hours over the past few years.
These are accrued according to the calendar year; per the 2001-2002 RFP, "Members on a nine month contract are granted ten (10) days of sick leave per year (51). The academic year has nineteen (19) paychecks, representing ten work days accruing 3 sick hours per pay period, totally 57 sick hours (19 checks x 3 sick hours = 57 sick hours; the 20th paycheck at 5 days accrues 1.5 hours, for a total of 58.5 sick hours per academic year. According to District Payroll, the 1.5 sick hours are made up at the beginning of the next academic year so that by December 31st faculty will have accrued 60 sick hours for the calendar year: 60 sick hours divided by a six hours work day = 10 sick days. As some faculty are 1.5 hours short, it may behoove everyone to check total sick day accruals to verify the number is correct. It is recommended everyone save pay slips.
At some campuses, faculty discuss itemizations with accounting colleagues. Advise your campus Faculty Senate President if you have questions about incorrect deductions.
