GATEWAY TO THE ARTS X PRESENTS FREE SILENT COMEDY SHORTS, LIVE MUSIC
GateWay to the Arts series celebrates a decade of arts & culture at GateWay CC during Oct. 8 event
PHOENIX, Arizona – This arts season, GateWay Community College celebrates 10 years of its successful GateWay to the Arts series, an ongoing effort of the college's Liberal Arts program to bring cultural events to its students, staff and community members. As one of the first events of the season, GateWay to the Arts X presents: Silent Comedy Shorts, a collection of popular slapstick comedy classics that will be accompanied by live music performed by accomplished theatre organist Ron Rhode. The free public event will take place from 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday, October 8, in the Center for Health Careers Education Building Auditorium at the GateWay campus, 108 N. 40th St, in Phoenix.
The Silent Comedy Shorts event will feature 1920's "The Garage" starring Buster Keaton, 1923's "Oranges and Lemons" starring Stan Laurel, and the 1922 classic "Cops" starring Buster Keaton. The shorts will be accompanied by the lively sounds of a real theatre organ played by Ron Rhode, a famed theatre organist who has played for major theatres all over the world for more than 35 years. This will be his twentieth performance at GateWay.
Silent Shorts is part of an ongoing partnership with the Valley of the Sun Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society and its Silent Saturdays series, of which GateWay Community College is a proud sponsor. As part of this collaboration, Hall will be speaking at four upcoming Silent Saturdays events at the Orpheum Theatre. For more information about Silent Saturdays, visit www.silentsundays.info.
