Combs Named General Counsel at Maricopa Community Colleges

Veteran College Lawyer Comes from Colorado

Tempe, AZ, October 27, 2009 – Lee R. Combs will be the new General Counsel of the Maricopa Community Colleges. His appointment was confirmed by the Colleges' Governing Board at a special meeting earlier this month.

Combs currently serves as General Counsel of Metropolitan State College, Denver, CO, a position he has held since March 1997. Prior to taking on that role, he was a private practitioner for two years. Earlier in his career, he served as Associate General Counsel to the Colorado State University System from 1987-1995; First Assistant Attorney General for Education, in the office of Colorado's Attorney General from 1984-87; and Deputy District Attorney in the Felony Prosecutions Unit of the District Attorney's Office.

Combs received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Denver and his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Illinois State University. He is a Fellow of the Institute for Educational Leadership. In addition, he served as President, Treasurer and Legislative Liaison for the Adams County School District Board of Education.

Combs replaces Pete Kushibab, who retired earlier in 2009. He will begin his work with the District in mid-November.

"I'm delighted to announce the appointment of Lee Combs, who brings a wealth of experience as a legal advisor to educational organizations," said Maricopa Chancellor Rufus Glasper. "His expertise will be a valuable addition to our district."
